Comparing SixTONES and SMAP: Member Similarities and Differences Explored

Question from a reader:
I’m curious about how SixTONES members can be compared to SMAP members. Could you explain this in detail? Additionally, I would love to know the similarities and differences between SixTONES and SMAP.

How to Compare the Members of SMAP and SixTONES?

Recently, I was discussing the comparison between SixTONES and SMAP with friends, and it sparked quite
an engaging conversation. We particularly focused on which members resemble which SMAP members. I found it challenging at first, but as I listened to my friends’ opinions, I started to form some images in my mind. For example, one friend suggested that Jesse is similar to Takuya Kimura. It makes sense since he is the face of the group, and there are moments when you can really feel Kimura’s charisma. Kyomoto Taiga was compared to Goro Inagaki. His refined features and unique aura indeed remind me of Inagaki. When my friend said, “Kyomoto’s voice sounds like Goro-chan!” I couldn’t help but laugh.

Diverse Personalities Among the Members

There was also the opinion that Matsumura Hokuto resembles Masaki Katori. They both share a certain stylishness, for sure. Tanaka Juri has a strong presence as an MC, much like Masahiro Nakai, and I think his playful side is quite similar as well. Morimoto Shintaro evokes the feeling of a youngest child like Shingo Katori, and his strong physique fits that comparison perfectly. Takachi Yugo has that playful character that suits Tsuyoshi Kusanagi well. As I casually remarked, “This member is like that!” I found myself appreciating their unique personalities all over again. Particularly, the youth and freshness that SixTONES possess remind me of the energy that SMAP had at their peak.

Similarities and Differences

In terms of similarities, both groups are multi-talented, excelling not only in singing and dancing but also in variety shows. I feel that SixTONES is inheriting the image of being a “national idol” that SMAP held. On the other hand, a key difference is that SixTONES is still in a growth phase, and I’m excited to see how they will evolve in the future. As someone who enjoys comedy, I often find myself smiling while watching their skits and talks. Recently, when I was enjoying a SixTONES program with my child, I couldn’t stop laughing, which deepened our bond as a parent and child. Finally, what do you all think? When comparing SixTONES and SMAP, which member do you think resembles whom? Please share your thoughts in the comments! Let’s enjoy this fun conversation together.
