Recently, I had an engaging discussion with a friend about whether there are truly sincere politicians. He expressed skepticism, asking, “Are there really any sincere politicians?” especially given the current political climate, which he finds discouraging. I understand his feelings, but I have a slightly different perspective.

I can find common ground with my friend’s mention of Taro Yamamoto. He certainly emphasizes sincerity in his approach. Particularly, his political activities carry a consistent message, and he seems committed to genuinely reflecting the voices of ordinary people. Since I work part-time at a judicial scrivener’s office, I often hear stories from people seeking legal advice, and their expectations and disappointments regarding politics come through vividly. In such a context, having someone like Yamamoto is reassuring.
The Sincerity of Freshman Legislators
I also resonate with my friend’s opinion that “all freshman legislators are sincere.” These individuals, having just entered the political arena, still hold onto their ideals and are actively engaged with enthusiasm. Of course, as time passes, they may face harsh realities and change, but their initial fervor is appealing.
The Challenges of Politics and Sincerity
However, it’s true that even with sincere intentions, fulfilling campaign promises is challenging. There are often many adversaries in the surrounding environment, making progress difficult. When I see politicians who maintain their beliefs despite these circumstances, it gives me a glimmer of hope. Naturally, as a judicial scrivener, I strive to work sincerely under the law, which might make me expect a similar attitude from politicians.
