The decision about whom Aiko will marry is likely to be more complex than we can imagine. While the imperial family members certainly value their personal freedoms, they also carry the weight of being national symbols, which brings various constraints. It feels somewhat sad to think that her marriage partner will be decided by the imperial council. When I got married, I had the freedom to choose my partner, but Aiko does not have that same liberty.
