Recently, the topic of defamation against Yuzuru Hanyu has been making headlines. As a fan of his, it’s definitely frustrating and painful to see. I think that jealousy and envy stemming from his
status as a superstar lead to such attacks.
Resonating with an Old Saying
There’s a saying, “The more you are loved, the more hatred you face,” and I truly believe this is accurate. Popular figures throughout history, like The Beatles and Michael Jackson, have always been subjected to such attacks. Personally, when I see someone standing out among my friends, I sometimes feel a tinge of jealousy, so I can relate to those feelings. Additionally, there’s a phrase in Taylor Swift’s songs that says, “Those who speak ill will continue to do so.” When I heard that, I couldn’t help but nod in agreement. She, too, has faced a lot of criticism amidst her success, which makes her experiences relatable.
The Strength of Hanyu’s Fans
However, Yuzuru has many strong supporters. As one of them, witnessing his dedication and passion naturally makes me want to cheer for him. Although defamation is tough, the significant presence of his supporting fans gives me confidence that he will be okay.
