Reader’s Question:
I can’t remember the name of an anime I used to watch a long time ago. I thought I might find it here, so I’m asking for help. I’m currently 34 years old. I believe I watched it during my elementary school years, possibly in the fourth grade or
maybe even middle school, during summer vacation in the mornings. I think it might be something like Detective Conan or Kindaichi, but I haven’t been able to find it on my own. The only thing I remember is a scene where the main characters visit an old Japanese house with many tatami rooms. There was a short grandmother and a woman of average height, who might have been her daughter or daughter-in-law. In the end, the grandmother was already deceased (I can’t remember if she was murdered or if she had passed away due to illness), but the woman was pretending to be the grandmother, kneeling down and using a tape recorder to mimic her voice from another room. That’s all I can recall. It’s probably not a crucial scene, but I was shocked to discover that the woman was in disguise. I think it was a murder mystery like Detective Conan. If anyone knows what this anime might be, I would really appreciate your help. I’ve been wondering about it for about ten years now. I’ve also been watching Kindaichi on FOD, but there are so many episodes that I can’t seem to find it.
Unraveling the Mystery of a Long-Lost Anime
I can totally relate to the feeling of trying to recall a childhood favorite show. It’s like chasing a memory that’s just out of reach, right? When I read your question, I felt a wave of nostalgia wash over me. You mentioned that the show felt like Detective Conan or Kindaichi, and immediately, I was transported back to those lazy summer mornings when I’d binge-watch episodes while devouring way too many snacks—oh, the joys of being a kid! The scene you described about the old Japanese house with tatami rooms really struck a chord. It’s such a classic setting in many anime, evoking that perfect blend of mystery and tradition. I can almost picture the characters moving through those rooms, the atmosphere thick with suspense. The twist with the grandmother’s disguise sounds like a plot twist that would leave anyone shocked! From what the user suggested, it seems like you might be looking for Detective Conan episodes 222 to 224, titled “And Then There Were No Mermaids.” The idea that a character would go to such lengths to recreate someone else’s voice is both chilling and fascinating. It’s those kinds of clever twists that make mystery shows so captivating. Plus, it sounds like there’s a great dynamic between Heiji and Kazuha in that arc, which always adds some fun to the serious moments. You know, I’ve had similar experiences where I’ve stumbled upon old shows that brought back a flood of memories. It’s like finding an old toy in the attic; it sparks all these feelings. I remember once, I found a box of my childhood snacks, and I swear I couldn’t resist diving straight in! It was messy and indulgent, but those moments of nostalgia are priceless. I’d love to hear more about your experiences with anime! Have you come across any other shows that brought back memories? Or maybe there’s another mystery you’re trying to solve? Let’s keep this conversation going in the comments!
