Question from a reader:
Will Shinjiro Koizumi become a hero if he sets the price of rice at 2000 yen for 5 kilograms? Or does this guarantee his position as Prime Minister?
Shinjiro Koizumi and Rice Prices
Recently, while talking with friends, we discussed whether Shinjiro Koizumi could become a hero if he sets the price of rice at 2000 yen
for 5 kilograms. We also exchanged opinions about his future as a politician and the necessity of agricultural reform.
Remembering Young Junichiro Koizumi
I’ll never forget the shock when Junichiro Koizumi said he would “break the Liberal Democratic Party.” Back then, everyone, including young me, was filled with excitement. I never thought politics could be this interesting. His son, Shinjiro, seems to be saying he wants to “break the agricultural cooperatives” to push for agricultural reform, but I wonder if he can actually do that. I love rice, especially Niigata’s Koshihikari, which is simply the best. However, even if the price of stockpiled rice is low, I don’t think consumers will be satisfied without guarantees for other delicious rice. The gap between expectations and reality is a common theme in politics.
Personal Thoughts and Expectations
I believe it would be beneficial for Shinjiro to gain experience as Foreign Minister to become Prime Minister. Observing figures like Ishiba and Edano, it seems that diplomatic skills are essential. I hope he develops a broader perspective. I have a sense of wanting to watch him grow as a politician. Recently, when cooking rice with my child, I made a little mistake. I miscalculated the water amount, and the rice turned out a bit mushy. However, my child joyfully exclaimed, “This is delicious!” and in that moment, my heart warmed. It’s important to feel those small everyday joys while discussing politics. If any of you have opinions about politics or agriculture, or fun rice stories from home, please share them in the comments! Let’s talk together!
