Question from a reader:
I’ve heard mixed opinions about Myakumyaku, but is it really popular in the end? Or does it feel a bit too much? I personally like it.
Thoughts on Myakumyaku
Recently, I’ve been hearing a lot about Myakumyaku. I know opinions are divided, but I personally think it’s quite an interesting character. Especially, its unique design has a
challenging charm, doesn’t it? It might not appeal to those who prefer more conventional designs, but the fact that it draws attention is undeniable.
Memorable Moments
The other day, I went out for drinks with some friends, and the topic of Myakumyaku came up. One friend was a bit negative, asking, “Why is that creepy character so popular?” But when I replied, “Don’t you think it has a certain charm?” we ended up having a lively discussion about it. In the end, we were laughing while watching videos featuring Myakumyaku and had a great time. That friend’s phrase “Ikisugii” has become somewhat of a trendy expression, and it seems many people are using it. However, if someone uses that phrase without knowing its origin, they might get some strange looks. I sometimes find myself using it too, so I have to be careful.
The Backstory of Merchandise
This got me thinking about the merchandise related to the expo. The choice of that creepy mascot makes sense when you consider the projected sales. There are more diverse needs in society than we might think. For instance, I can’t help but imagine how I would react if my child wanted a Myakumyaku plush toy. What do you all think? If you have any interesting stories about Myakumyaku’s design or recent trendy phrases, please share them! I’m looking forward to our discussions in the comments.
