Navigating Fashion Discrepancies: The Challenge of Brand Image and Personal Style

Reader’s Question:
Nagano Mei-san wearing Prada feels somewhat mismatched in my opinion. Her youthful and cute aura seems a bit out of place with the sophisticated image of a luxury brand. What do you think?

Brand and Image Discrepancy

Recently, when I saw Nagano Mei-san in Prada, I couldn’t help but feel it was a bit strange. Her adorable youthful face
and the refined image of Prada seemed to be at odds with each other. Of course, she is a fantastic actress, and there must be reasons why the brand chose her, but I still can’t shake off the sense of dissonance.

Image Mismatch

Reflecting back, I remember a time when I attended an event with a university friend who chose a dress that was far too upscale for the occasion. She usually preferred casual fashion, but that day she was particularly excited. The moment she put on that dress, all eyes were on her, but it was clear that the dress didn’t match her personality at all. In the end, she tried her best to fit in with the atmosphere, but I remember her looking quite uneasy.

Coexistence of Brand and Individuality

It’s true that models chosen by brands often serve as a “crowd-puller.” As long as one is popular, anyone can have the opportunity to wear that brand. However, I believe that alignment with the brand’s image and concept is also required. I myself have felt uncertain during meetings with clients while working at a law firm, wondering, “Is this outfit appropriate?” Dressing too casually can undermine trust, while being overly formal can make communication difficult. Choosing the right outfit is surprisingly challenging.

If any of you have thoughts on brands or clothing, I would love for you to share them in the comments. I’m particularly interested in humorous experiences or unexpected discoveries. I believe many, like me, grapple with fashion dilemmas, so it would be great to discuss this together.
