Exploring Family Resemblances: Who Does Princess Kako Really Look Like?

Question from a reader:
My mother-in-law insists that Prince Akishino is the child of Princess Michiko’s sister and that Princess Kako looks just like her aunt. Even though I disagree, she refuses to listen. I think Prince Akishino, Prince Hisahito, and Princess Mako resemble Empress Kojun when she was younger, but who does Princess Kako resemble?

Talking about family can be
tricky

Recently, there’s been a bit of a discussion in my family. My mother-in-law has her own opinions about the family relations between Prince Akishino and Princess Michiko, but it seems we’re at odds. Conversations like this can create a rather awkward atmosphere.

Family resemblances, where do they come from?

My mother-in-law firmly believes that “Prince Akishino is the child of Princess Michiko’s sister” and claims that Princess Kako resembles her aunt. However, I have some doubts about that perspective. I do think that Prince Akishino, Prince Hisahito, and Princess Mako bear a resemblance to Empress Kojun, but what about Princess Kako? When I compare various photos, I feel like there are both similarities and differences. While discussing this, my little child asked, “Daddy, who is the coolest?” and I couldn’t help but laugh. The innocent perspective of children is truly amusing. I jokingly replied, “Of course, I’m the coolest!” and my child burst out laughing.

DNA test? That’s a bit much…

As mentioned in the comments, someone suggested that if there’s really no resemblance, we could just do a DNA test, and I couldn’t help but chuckle at that. It’s not something ordinary families would typically consider! But when you think about it, discussions about family resemblances and differences can be really interesting and sometimes create a delicate atmosphere.
