Question from a Reader:
With the increasing number of graduates from Hololive, I’m struggling with what I should do. Is it true fandom to continue supporting without questioning the company’s policies? Or is it more genuine to have doubts about the company’s direction and express those opinions?
Reflecting on the Hololive Graduation Wave
Recently, I’ve heard about the rising number of
graduates from Hololive, which has made me think a bit. As a fan, it’s complicated to see a beloved content evolve. Especially when a favorite member graduates, it becomes challenging to decide how to continue supporting them. I recalled a friend I met at a comedy event a few years ago who said, “It’s natural for things you love to change, but how you support them is what matters.” His attitude of wanting to cheer them on even after their graduation, watching their growth, left a strong impression on me. I feel like his words changed something within me.
Perspective as a Fan
Now, regarding the question of whether questioning the company’s policies is part of being a true fan, I’d like to share my thoughts. It’s true that having doubts about the company’s direction and operations can be one way to express fandom. However, if you focus too much on that, you might end up losing enjoyment in the process. I used to struggle with “Why is this happening?” every time my favorite idol graduated, but gradually I came to think, “I should respect their choices.” While there are certainly areas where I’d like the management to improve, ultimately, wishing for their happiness seems to be the most important thing.
How to Support
Every fan expresses their support in different ways. I believe it’s best to support them in a manner that feels comfortable for you while not bothering others. We have the right to enjoy their activities and share positive energy with fellow fans. So, rather than adhering to notions of what a “true fan” is or having a sense of elitism, I think it’s better to find your own unique style of support. Lastly, what I’ve been really into lately is following the new activities of graduated members. Seeing them thrive in new fields brings me joy. I look forward to their evolution while supporting them at my own pace. What do you all think? I’d love to hear your thoughts on Hololive and how you choose to support your favorites in the comments!
