Will Fuji TV Really Change?
Recently, there has been a lot of news surrounding the reform of Fuji TV, but to be honest, I have my doubts. Looking at the members proposed by Dalton Investments for the outside directors, I can’t help but feel anxious about whether these individuals can truly drive reform. I was particularly surprised by the comments
made by Chairman Kitao Yoshitaka. He had previously stated that he had the determination to change the old corporate culture, yet during the press conference, he mentioned that it was “possible for him to become chairman” and suggested that “Shimizu-san could remain.” This gives off a strong impression of maintaining the status quo. Many viewers have echoed this sentiment, saying that it seems like “only Hieda has changed to Kitao.”
Is Fukuda’s Selection Really Okay?
Additionally, I’m concerned about the inclusion of President Fukuda Jun in the list of outside director candidates. It’s hard to believe that someone who manages talent for the former Johnny’s Entertainment would become a board member. On top of that, there are reports of a cheating scandal involving Fukuda, which raises questions about his suitability for leading governance reform. There are also concerns that if a talent agency president becomes a director, they might prioritize their own talents in programming decisions.
Are We Lacking Young Perspectives?
Furthermore, the presence of former Fuji TV announcers from the “older generation,” such as Sakano Naoko and Kitaya Kenji, raises some eyebrows. While there are claims that young perspectives and IT talent are lacking, I believe that bolder choices are necessary to truly bring in new energy. Sometimes, I feel it’s essential to recognize the unique perspectives and innovative ideas that the younger generation can contribute. Since my child was born recently, I’ve particularly come to value “new perspectives.” Observing what captures my child’s interest and what types of play they enjoy has led to discoveries that I might not notice in my everyday life. I think Fuji TV could benefit from embracing this kind of fresh outlook.
