Question from a reader:
I’ve come across some heartless comments on social media regarding Tsuji-chan’s pregnancy and the announcement of her child’s gender. Why do people say such things? It seems difficult for her to be celebrated.
The Background of Heartless Comments
Recently, I’ve noticed heartless comments on social media regarding Tsuji-chan’s pregnancy and the announcement of her child’s gender. Honestly,
it surprises me that there are people who would say such things. As a father myself, I want to wholeheartedly celebrate her happiness, but I find myself pondering why such cold words are exchanged.
Reactions to Others’ Happiness
Perhaps when people are unable to have children for various reasons, seeing someone like Tsuji-chan, who seems so happy, may evoke resentment. I have friends who are in pain because they cannot have children. One of them often says, “When I see others having fun, I can’t help but feel jealous.” I can understand that feeling. However, I cannot comprehend why someone would take the time to write hurtful comments. If they truly don’t care, they could just ignore it. Conversely, by deliberately writing things like “I’m not interested” or “I don’t care,” are they expressing their own feelings? I often wonder if they’ve considered how much those words can hurt someone else.
Our Reactions Matter
Ultimately, I think what matters is how we respond to things. I want to be the kind of person who can genuinely say “Congratulations!” when I see someone else’s happiness on social media. Sometimes, I feel jealousy creeping in, but I believe it’s important to acknowledge those feelings while celebrating others’ happiness. Speaking of which, I recently visited a friend’s house, and when I witnessed his child say his name for the first time, I almost cried. In that moment, I reaffirmed the joy of becoming a parent myself. Experiencing these small joys is, I believe, one of the greatest pleasures of having children.
