Reader’s Question:
I saw a segment on TV about the latest Conan movie, and there was this girl in an interview saying, “I’ll watch it 11 more times!!” It really annoyed me. Is there really any need to watch it that many times? I think 3 to 5 times at most
is reasonable. It feels like she’s just getting high on the fact that she’s so dedicated to watching it. She was even taking pictures with a stuffed toy. I wonder if she would still go that many times even if she didn’t have social media. It seems like she has a strong desire for self-promotion. What do you think? By the way, I’ve loved Conan since elementary school, but once is enough for me.
Let’s Talk About Movie Obsessions
So, I stumbled upon this question about a girl declaring her intention to watch the latest Conan movie eleven times. Honestly, I found it a bit amusing, yet it also got me reflecting on the nature of fandom. I mean, who hasn’t been so excited about a movie that they’ve thought about watching it more than once? I remember when I was younger, I went to see a particular animated film three times in theaters. Each time was a different experience. The first viewing was pure excitement; I was wide-eyed and giggling at every joke. The second time, I brought my little brother along, and his reactions were priceless. It was like experiencing the movie anew through his eyes. But by the third time, I was starting to pick up on all the little details, like how the animation team made that one character look so expressive. But eleven times? That’s a different level! I get that some people just love to immerse themselves in a world they adore, but I can’t help but wonder if that girl was also trying to gain some social media clout. I mean, taking selfies with a stuffed toy from the movie? It feels a bit like she’s trying to create a brand, doesn’t it? I can totally understand where the comments about self-promotion are coming from. Now, I’m not here to judge anyone’s passion. If someone has the time and the money to go see a movie that often, more power to them! I guess I would rather enjoy other activities too, like heading out for a hike, grabbing a coffee, or indulging in a bit of stand-up comedy. Plus, I can’t imagine sitting through a movie I’ve already seen so many times and not having that thrill of suspense or surprise. It’s like what one of the commenters mentioned about “Detective Conan.” Once you know who the culprit is, the thrill of the mystery is kind of lost, right? Yet, I also remember friends who went to see “Mugen Ressha” more times than I could count. They had their reasons, and I think that’s what makes fandom so interesting. Everyone connects with stories differently. I guess the underlying question is about the balance between enjoying something and letting it consume you. It’s a fine line, and one that varies from person to person. I’ve had my own moments of geeky obsession—like that time I binge-watched a series over a weekend and totally lost track of time. But I think it’s all about moderation. What about you? Have you ever found yourself watching a movie or series way more times than you’d care to admit? Or maybe you have a quirky story about a time you went a little overboard with your fandom? I’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences! Let’s chat in the comments!
