In the realm of VTubing, which is a new form of entertainment, it is genuinely concerning when popular members decide to leave. The conflict between the operational policies of the company and the individual freedoms of the members is a challenge that can be seen everywhere.
The VTuber Industry: Talent as Capital
For VTuber companies, talent is undeniably their most important asset. The unique personalities and skills of individual members are what attract fans. Therefore, the decision to let go of members who do not comply with operational policies is extremely risky. However, I also believe that a certain level of rules is necessary to maintain organizational discipline. In an organization that gathers dozens of members, it is challenging to create an environment where everyone is satisfied. If one member’s demands are accommodated, others are likely to make similar requests. If that happens, the overall interests of the organization could be compromised. The graduation of popular members is a significant blow, but it might be a choice made to prevent even greater losses.
Corporate Projects and Individual Freedom
It’s also noteworthy that the graduating members mention a “difference in direction with the company.” They likely have a desire to focus on streaming by rejecting corporate projects, merchandise, voice work, and events. If the environment allowed for such freedom, perhaps the members would have stayed with Hololive longer. However, it is also true that there seem to be issues within the company structure. Complaints from staff are frequently heard. Until these internal problems are resolved, I doubt the number of graduating members will decrease.
