The discussion surrounding Watanabe Nagisa has been quite intense lately. I’ve noticed many comments labeling her actions as “self-promotion” or claiming that “if she has PTSD, she can’t possibly do gravure.” This makes me question the validity of such statements. Personally, I love comedy and sometimes find myself joking about serious matters, but I believe these
issues deserve a serious approach.
The Meaning of “Self-Promotion”
The term “self-promotion” is frequently used, but I wonder if it’s truly a negative thing. For instance, if sharing an experience can inspire others, that act could be seen as a wonderful contribution. Especially when survivors share their experiences, it can provide hope for those in similar situations. In my view, appearing in the media is not merely “self-promotion” but a form of self-expression. While it can certainly be exploited for self-promotion, that doesn’t inherently make it wrong. I don’t believe that “suffering in silence” is an accurate depiction of a victim. Being able to raise one’s voice is a sign of strength.
PTSD and the Recovery Process
There are many opinions on PTSD, but I believe that “taking action” is part of the recovery process. Cognitive behavioral therapy and Morita therapy are often cited as effective, and many people can regain their self-esteem through action. Trying new things can actually help in the healing process. I remember a friend who dealt with PTSD; he gradually recovered through his love for sports. Initially, he struggled to participate, but practicing with his teammates helped him regain confidence, which was truly inspiring. It really shows that everyone has their own path to recovery.
Confidentiality and Its Interpretation
Confidentiality can be interpreted in various ways. Some claim that discussing matters with the media after a settlement violates confidentiality, but I think it’s unreasonable for outsiders to criticize that. Only the parties involved know the specifics of their agreement, and it’s inappropriate for outsiders to speculate and judge. Discussing complex issues can sometimes lead to emotional reactions, but it’s crucial to remain calm. While having your own opinion is important, listening to others is equally necessary.
