Thoughts on NewJeans’ Hiatus
Recently, I was quite surprised to hear the news about NewJeans going on hiatus. I can imagine that their fans are in shock. As someone who loves music and performance,
news like this is truly heartbreaking.
What Happened?
First of all, NewJeans debuted in 2022, and their style and music have garnered a lot of support from many people. However, looking at the recent series of events, it’s clear that there have been a number of issues threatening their activities. Specifically, after the dismissal of producer Min Heejin, the members’ attempts to reclaim him and the revelations about bullying have been quite shocking. I remember a time when a friend of mine spoke about bullying in the workplace, and his distressed expression left a lasting impression on me. Bullying is an issue that can happen to anyone. I believe it took a considerable amount of courage for Hani to testify in the National Assembly.
The Path to Hiatus
The fact that the reason for the hiatus is related to a court ruling adds a layer of complexity to the situation. There seems to have been misunderstandings with their management agency, and the members are likely feeling unsettled with restrictions on their independent activities. Not being able to pursue what they want to do must be incredibly painful for them as artists.
