Reflecting on Time: How Haruko Obokata’s STAP Cells Story and Nostalgia Shape Our Lives

Reader’s Question:
It’s hard to believe that it’s been 11 years since Haruko Obokata made headlines in 2014. You really feel the passage of time.

Moments of Realizing Time Passes

Recently, I found myself thinking about Haruko Obokata and how her news became such a massive topic back in 2014. The shocking statement “STAP cells exist” really took everyone by surprise.
Not to mention, her character was quite memorable too. As a beautiful female scientist, she certainly captured everyone’s attention. Since I’m the same age as Obokata, watching her story unfold makes me feel the passage of time myself. Back in 2014, I had just entered my 30s and was in a phase where I wanted to take on various challenges. I remember being so busy with work that I hardly had time to chat with friends. Looking back now, I wish I had spent more time having fun.

Nostalgic Memories

Time really does fly, doesn’t it? Recently, while playing with my child, I often find myself reminiscing about news from that time. When I was in elementary school, I loved stopping by the candy store with friends after school to buy a bunch of sweets. Those were such nostalgic times. Now, sharing the joy of picking out snacks with my child brings a new happiness. Picking them up early from school and enjoying snacks together makes me feel so content. Sometimes, I end up buying a bit too many treats, and I find myself regretting it later (laughs). Is there anyone out there who, like me, has moments where they feel time passing or has nostalgic memories? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments! It would be great to chat with everyone.
